Base Salary

$144k - $194k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain software integration layers connecting Compass safety modules to mobile robots, manipulators, and legged robots.
  • Build abstractions and APIs that decouple safety logic from platform-specific hardware for multi-platform deployment.
  • Collaborate with motion planning, perception, and controls teams to provide reliable data flow and real-time performance.
  • Develop interfaces to safety-rated firmware and hardware while supporting functional safety requirements.
  • Architect production-grade software that operates reliably across millions of deployed robots.
  • Write tested, maintainable C++ and/or Python for real-time robotics applications.
  • Define integration testing strategies and simulation-based validation pipelines for safety behavior.
  • Conduct system design reviews, document interface contracts, resolve performance bottlenecks, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience, programming experience, and experience leading design or architecture for new and existing systems.
  • Proficiency in C++, Rust, and/or Python with production-quality real-time systems experience.
  • Experience developing software for robotic systems, embedded platforms, or safety-critical applications.
  • Familiarity with ROS/ROS2 and real-time communication frameworks.
  • Experience designing software abstractions, APIs, or hardware abstraction layers for multi-platform deployment.
  • Understanding of software engineering practices including version control, code review, testing, and CI/CD.
  • Preferred qualifications include a Master's or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Controls, or a related field.
  • Preferred experience includes full software development life cycle work, motion planning and perception integration, control barrier functions, formal safety verification, RTOS, safety-rated firmware interfaces, multiple robot morphologies, reinforcement learning, foundation model deployment, robotics simulation, and fleet-scale production.

  • The listed base salary range is $143,700.00-$194,400.00 annually in Pasadena, California and North Reading, Massachusetts.
