Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed backend services for the exchange platform.
- Own services and features end-to-end, including specifications, implementation, instrumentation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Modernize the existing Java codebase and develop new services in Java and potentially Kotlin.
- Contribute to architecture for order processing, market data distribution, and trade lifecycle management.
- Build reliable reporting pipelines with data integrity and complete audit trails for trading activity.
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotations and contribute to SLOs, alerting, monitoring, and incident response.
- Model and manage data for contracts, orders, positions, and settlements with a focus on correctness and regulatory auditability.
- Collaborate with DevOps and Platform teams to make services observable, scalable, and compliant with MNPI and insider-trading restrictions.
- Conduct code reviews and establish standards for code quality, security, maintainability, AI usage, and validation.
- Use AI coding tools to improve development velocity while maintaining security, correctness, and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience building highly scalable, high-performance backend applications or distributed systems.
- Strong production experience with Java; Kotlin experience is a plus.
- Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka, Kinesis, or PubSub in financial or high-throughput environments.
- Strong understanding of data integrity, transaction management, and financial-grade data modeling in PostgreSQL or an equivalent relational database.
- Knowledge of software design principles, testing methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and safe deployment practices.
- Production reliability experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, on-call operations, and SLO definition.
- Experience using AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot to ship production code and improve workflows.
- Familiarity with CFTC compliance, MNPI handling, and audit-trail obligations.
- Experience in regulated exchanges, brokerage, futures or derivatives exchanges, market makers, hedge funds, or similar regulated financial infrastructure is strongly preferred.
- Preferred experience includes low-latency trading systems, order books, market data infrastructure, in-memory systems, Aeron, legacy Java modernization, or high-growth environments.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to engineering, compliance, and business stakeholders.
