Responsibilities
- Design and evolve the semantic modeling layer as the source of truth for metrics, dimensions, entities, and business logic.
- Define standards for semantic model authoring, versioning, testing, governance, and technology strategy.
- Architect semantic-layer consumption across reporting, agentic analytics, and other product surfaces.
- Own query performance, materialization strategies, pre-aggregation patterns, scalability, and cost optimization.
- Build self-service metric onboarding, developer-friendly abstractions, documentation, validation, and governance guardrails.
- Lead cross-team architecture and design discussions, mentor engineers, align stakeholders, and contribute to platform-wide architecture decisions.
- Use Claude, Cursor, and Copilot as part of daily engineering workflows and promote AI-assisted development practices.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering or data engineering, including large-scale, high-traffic, fault-tolerant systems.
- Deep experience with semantic modeling, data engineering, data lakehouses, data products, and platform-level abstractions.
- Strong DBT experience and expert-level SQL and Python skills, including query optimization and performance tuning.
- Experience with Snowflake, ClickHouse, or similar OLAP/columnar engines, plus familiarity with Spark and streaming platforms such as Kafka and Kinesis.
- Experience designing APIs and interfaces for domain-specific data products.
- Demonstrated daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude and Cursor.
- Experience leading system architecture and design, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to advocate for user experience.
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in computer science or a related field.
- Preferred experience includes semantic layers for human and AI consumers, data governance, metric versioning, data product catalogs, LLM-friendly data interfaces, and data quality frameworks such as Monte Carlo and Great Expectations.
