Responsibilities
- Define and influence the direction of a small team using subject-matter expertise in target tracking and state estimation.
- Architect, maintain, and evolve complex software systems while improving performance, maintainability, and scalability.
- Prototype and deploy algorithms for tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, and state estimation.
- Develop high-performance Rust software for real-time systems, simulations, and decision-support tools.
- Design robust filters, estimators, and probabilistic reasoning systems for noisy or incomplete sensor data.
- Apply software design patterns and architectural best practices to evolve production systems and manage technical debt.
- Analyze system performance through high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and statistical techniques.
- Customize algorithms and software for mission-critical customer use cases, including real-time tracking and sensor fusion.
- Integrate tracking and estimation technologies across requirements definition, testing, optimization, and the broader software development lifecycle.
- Translate technical progress into actionable insights for colleagues and end users.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, or another technical field.
- At least 2+ years working on a single codebase or product as requirements evolved.
- Demonstrated experience managing production software architecture, refactoring legacy systems, and managing technical debt.
- Strong understanding of software design patterns, architectural principles, and maintainable, scalable system development.
- Proficiency in algorithm design, software development, and statistical modeling; experience with Rust, C, C++, Python, and Matlab is a plus.
- Understanding of linear algebra, optimization, probability, stochastic processes, signal processing, estimation theory, adaptive filtering, and controls.
- Familiarity with big data pipelines, NoSQL databases, and large-scale sensor data.
- Ability to work across the lifecycle from prototyping through production optimization.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Advanced degree is strongly preferred.
- Preferred experience includes refactoring and modernizing production Rust codebases, making architectural decisions, providing technical leadership, and contributing to open-source Rust projects.
- Preferred experience includes concurrent and parallel programming in Rust, Bayesian filtering, sensor fusion, recursive estimation, and machine learning for target tracking and recognition.
- Preferred knowledge includes Kalman filters, particle filters, and multi-target tracking algorithms such as JPDA, MHT, and PHD filters.
