Base Salary

$160k - $240k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced motion planning for unmanned surface and underwater vehicles while enforcing safety constraints.
  • Build localization, tracking, sensor-fusion, observability-aware maneuvering, and multi-agent coordination capabilities.
  • Develop safe maritime autonomy behaviors, including runtime assurance and COLREGS adherence.
  • Create high-performance, well-tested software modules with clear interfaces for operational deployment.
  • Collaborate with perception, planning, simulation, hardware, and operational-test teams to integrate autonomy solutions.
  • Deploy software to real surface vehicles, support integration and demonstration events, and analyze mission logs.
  • Research and prototype algorithms, identify tactical capability gaps, and contribute to autonomy roadmaps.
  • Mentor junior engineers and occasionally interface with customers.
  • Travel approximately 25% of the year to offices, customer sites, and integration events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 10 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, 9 years with a master's degree, or 7 years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python.
  • Significant experience in robotics areas such as control systems, motion planning, optimization, tactical behaviors, or distributed decision-making.
  • Significant experience with unmanned-system technologies and related algorithms, ideally in maritime applications.
  • Experience with simulation tools and environments such as AFSIM or NGTS.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and experience troubleshooting and optimizing system performance.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance or higher.
  • Preferred: experience across air, land, sea, or space domains; classical control, optimization, applied ML/RL; collaborative behaviors and swarm robotics; DoD or government programs; integration events, customer demonstrations, or live exercises; and applied R&D.
