Base Salary
$161k - $274k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement Voice AI applications across speech recognition, conversation management, and speech generation.
- Own language support end to end by adding languages and locales and maintaining language-specific instructions, normalization, and pronunciation rules.
- Analyze speech problems across languages, accents, and dialects and diagnose production failures to drive fixes with engineering teams.
- Partner with linguists, engineers, product managers, and customers to identify linguistic problems and build successful Voice AI experiences.
- Design linguistic experiments to guide Voice AI technology, model, and vendor choices.
- Build tooling to analyze linguistic problems at scale and contribute code to platform features.
- Mentor colleagues and promote knowledge-sharing across linguistics and Voice AI engineering.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
- Specialization in phonetics, acoustics, psycholinguistics, or cognitive science, preferably applied or interdisciplinary.
- 4+ years of large-scale experiment design and quantitative research experience in an industry or applied research setting.
- Hands-on experience building Voice AI applications.
- Development experience with Python or similar languages.
- Deep knowledge of the structure of several languages; fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
- Ability to explain linguistic findings clearly to engineers, product managers, and customers.
- Experience evaluating speech recognition and speech synthesis systems is an asset.
- Experience building applications on top of LLMs, including prompt engineering, is an asset.
- Hands-on experience with AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf.
