Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and evolve the authorization platform using RBAC, ABAC, and ReBAC.
  • Design, build, and evolve authentication systems across multiple use cases in collaboration with the Auth0 integration.
  • Build and operate user management systems for creating, provisioning, and managing user identities and entitlements.
  • Partner with security teams to implement secure-by-design systems aligned with SOC2 and GDPR requirements.
  • Design highly scalable systems that support a growing number of users and customers.
  • Define the long-term roadmap across authentication, authorization, and user management.
  • Build self-service GraphQL, gRPC, and REST APIs for product engineering teams.
  • Drive projects autonomously from Canada while coordinating closely with the Helsinki-based team.
  • Champion testing, observability, and reliability practices across the identity platform.

Requirements

  • Strong experience building and operating identity, authentication, or authorization platforms at scale is required.
  • Experience in a platform or product-platform engineering context is preferred.
  • Expertise with Java, Spring Boot, WebFlux, Maven, SQL, GraphQL, gRPC, REST, AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, and Helm is expected.
  • Experience with RBAC, ABAC, ReBAC, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, SAML 2.0, enterprise SSO federation, and SCIM is expected.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture patterns and test-driven development or a strong commitment to automated testing is expected.
  • Auth0, SpiceDB or Zanzibar-style authorization systems, Apollo Federation, OpenTelemetry, and SOC2 or GDPR environments are nice to have.
  • Candidates should be self-sufficient, comfortable shaping roadmaps and driving execution autonomously, interested in security, and able to collaborate across time zones.
