Responsibilities
- Own backend features from requirements clarification through implementation, shipping, and production follow-up.
- Design and maintain APIs, background jobs, integrations, bounded services, data models, migrations, indexes, and query behavior.
- Write maintainable, secure, observable, and performant backend code.
- Add and improve unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end test coverage and review code for technical and operational risks.
- Investigate build, test, deployment, and runtime failures and propose improvements to technical debt and system operation.
- Participate in on-call or operational support where required by the team’s ownership model.
- Use AI coding tools productively, validate their output, and correct generated code when necessary.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Frontend, Infrastructure, Security, designers, and engineering teammates in a remote asynchronous environment.
Requirements
- Professional experience building and shipping production backend applications.
- Strong programming, API, database, testing, debugging, and performance fundamentals.
- Experience with Ruby/Rails, Go, or another modern backend language, with the ability to learn and adapt.
- Ability to independently own features from clarification through delivery and follow-up while seeking input appropriately.
- Sound judgment regarding security, reliability, performance, maintainability, operational risk, modular backend boundaries, and coupling.
- Strong written communication and effective collaboration in a remote, asynchronous environment.
- Practical experience with AI coding tools and the ability to review and correct their generated output.
- Helpful experience includes production Go services, APIs, concurrency, profiling, gRPC, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, cloud deployment, Rust, PostgreSQL, schema evolution, caching, queues, messaging, event-driven workflows, and observability.
