Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate internal data platform services and CLIs for authoring, scheduling, validating, and shipping analytics and operational data-modeling changes.
- Improve reliability and operability through monitoring, incident response patterns, safe rollouts, and clear runbooks.
- Lead large-scale migrations and deprecations with phased plans, guardrails, and measurable cutover criteria.
- Identify systemic bottlenecks, right-size workloads, and build safeguards that improve cost and performance.
- Build developer experiences including fast feedback loops, golden paths, self-service workflows, and actionable error messages.
- Standardize metadata, access, testing, and promotion patterns across teams while supporting legitimate exceptions.
Requirements
- Design maintainable systems and operate them responsibly in production while reasoning about correctness, reliability, and performance.
- Own production changes through rollout and rollback planning, impact monitoring, and post-launch follow-through.
- Apply systems thinking through clear interfaces, explicit failure modes, and pragmatic tradeoffs among correctness, freshness, cost, and complexity.
- Reason about backfills, idempotency, schema evolution, and downstream blast radius across dependent datasets.
- Demonstrate proficiency with at least one major cloud platform: GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Bonus qualifications include hands-on experience with BigQuery, Airflow or Composer, Iceberg or Delta, data lake or lakehouse operations, or large-scale platform migrations.
