Base Salary
$262k - $364k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction for Spanner’s next-generation Batch I/O interface, database branching, bulk processing, and architectural integration between Serving and other subsystems.
- Lead the AI-assisted modernization of Spanner Serving to reduce technical debt and operational toil while maintaining correctness and availability.
- Design, build, and deploy AI-powered tools, agents, and automated workflows for code review, testing, verification, debugging, and incident response.
- Define AI-first engineering practices, identify high-value use cases, review AI-agent work, and measure effects on engineering speed and quality.
- Influence and mentor engineers across Spanner and share reusable technical patterns with partner teams across Google.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience with software design and architecture and with testing or launching software products.
- Experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.
- Experience innovating the development process using AI.
- Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Preferred: 3 years of experience in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
- Preferred: deep understanding of database engine internals, query execution or optimization, or distributed data storage.
