Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, development, deployment, and evolution of complex production-grade AI agents and intelligent systems.
- Set technical direction and make trade-offs across models, orchestration, retrieval, tools, data, infrastructure, latency, cost, security, reliability, and maintainability.
- Lead AI initiatives from experimentation and architecture through production adoption, scale, and operational ownership.
- Define engineering standards for AI evaluation, testing, observability, guardrails, failure handling, security, and responsible deployment.
- Develop reusable AI capabilities and shared platform components for agent orchestration, tool use, retrieval-based systems, evaluation, observability, and guardrails.
- Evaluate emerging models, frameworks, tools, and AI engineering approaches and guide their adoption.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentorship, design reviews, code reviews, and resolution of complex engineering challenges.
- Incubate AI products, harden them for production, and transfer proven solutions to business-aligned technology teams.
- Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, senior partners, and technology leaders to translate priorities into scalable AI solutions.
- Identify enterprise AI opportunities that accelerate workflows, improve decision-making, and create measurable business impact.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with object-oriented languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript, including technical delivery leadership across teams or major initiatives.
- Deep hands-on experience designing and delivering production or near-production AI-enabled systems, intelligent workflows, or agentic applications.
- Strong expertise in agent orchestration, tool or function calling, retrieval-based systems, prompt and context engineering, evaluation, observability, guardrails, and failure handling.
- Experience architecting production AI systems and balancing model capability, quality, latency, cost, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Extensive experience delivering cloud-native solutions using AWS or equivalent, containerized microservices, APIs, and modern software delivery practices.
- Strong understanding of evaluation and testing strategies for non-deterministic AI systems.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, architecture, and system-design skills.
- Experience establishing engineering standards, automated testing, code reviews, observability, security, and continuous delivery practices.
- Strong communication and influence skills across engineering, product, business, and senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and raising technical capability across teams.
- Preferred: experience establishing technical direction across multiple teams and understanding of financial markets, asset management, or financial instruments.
Benefits
- Base salary ranges are $145,000.00-$247,000.00 for Maryland, Colorado, Washington, and remote workers; $159,000.00-$272,000.00 for Washington, D.C.; and $181,000.00-$309,000.00 for New York and California.
- Eligible employees may receive a discretionary annual bonus.
- Hybrid work is available with up to three days per week from home.
