Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate scalable backend systems supporting Grab Mobility at high throughput and in real time.
- Develop reusable, scalable, and testable code and deliver features with high quality.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Analytics, Operations, QA, ML, Android, iOS, backend, and partner-facing teams on technical solutions.
- Review code and engineering specifications and provide constructive feedback.
- Participate in on-call operations by triaging, debugging, mitigating, and resolving complex production issues.
- Improve reliability, observability, operational readiness, deployment safety, capacity planning, and postmortem follow-up.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience in distributed systems environments.
- Proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Go, C++, Python, or a similar language.
- Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and system design principles.
- Experience designing and operating high-throughput or real-time distributed systems.
- Understanding of production failure modes including partial failures, timeouts, retries, duplicate events, eventual consistency, and dependency degradation.
- Knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
- Hands-on experience with production observability, including metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and runbooks.
- Understanding of SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, safe deployments, rollback strategies, capacity planning, and postmortem follow-ups.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, containers, infrastructure automation, and modern delivery practices.
- Ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical functions, communicate technical trade-offs clearly, and take ownership of outcomes.
