Responsibilities
- Own backend solutions from customer problem definition through design, development, testing, deployment, and production operation.
- Design and maintain highly scalable services using Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
- Lead development in event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems.
- Architect, design, and optimize relational databases such as PostgreSQL for performance and scalability.
- Collaborate with product managers, partner banks, and cross-functional engineering teams on partner integrations and payment-platform expansion.
- Improve testing, observability, reliability, and maintainability while diagnosing production issues.
- Participate in code reviews, share domain knowledge, mentor junior engineers, and help colleagues grow.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building or substantially contributing to large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong backend engineering experience with relational databases, event-driven systems, and an object-oriented programming language.
- Ability to understand customer problems, explain why solutions matter, and assess product impact.
- Ability to take ownership, work autonomously, make progress through ambiguity, and involve relevant experts.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams.
- Curiosity about banking and partner business domains and willingness to learn them.
- Useful additional experience includes Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, payments, financial technology, funding, settlement, foreign exchange, and using product metrics to understand customer behavior.
