Base Salary
$180k - $215k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical architecture of new Services products and own complex projects that improve system scalability and sustainability.
- Write code, build prototypes and experiments, and contribute across planning, testing, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Establish software patterns, investigate technology choices, and make technical decisions across Services products.
- Build and evolve analytics and infrastructure that use user-generated data to inform decisions.
- Solve ambiguous, high-impact technical and business problems, including initiatives to grow users and subscribers.
- Provide technical and product direction across Thunderbird and collaborate with Mozilla teams and community contributors.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, documentation, technical discussions, process improvements, and ongoing guidance.
- Identify improvements that make systems and processes more accessible, self-serviceable, scalable, sustainable, and easier to delegate.
Requirements
- 10+ years of web software development experience, including designing scalable and efficient systems and launching complex web projects at scale.
- Expert-level JavaScript skills and knowledge of at least one additional language such as Python, Rust, Go, or C++.
- Experience with front-end frameworks, full-stack development, and/or API development.
- Experience acting as a technical lead, solving complex technical problems, and mentoring and guiding engineers.
- Strong knowledge of software development practices including testing, code review, and documentation.
- Experience collaborating remotely across engineering, product management, QA, and design.
- Understanding of business challenges and opportunities, including experience helping expand a user and donor base.
- Strong written and verbal English communication and documentation skills.
- Comfort working in an open-source environment and commitment to Mozilla values.
- Ability to evaluate and responsibly use emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools.
- Willingness to travel periodically, including internationally.
- Product management or product-focused experience is a bonus.
