Staff Software Engineer, Autonomy Evaluation

Responsibilities
- Define the strategy and architecture for metrics and analyses evaluating autonomous-driving software across the autonomy stack.
- Lead cross-functional efforts to integrate evaluation into development workflows and release decisions.
- Develop statistical, machine-learning, and ML-introspection methods to quantify performance, detect regressions, and identify system behavior patterns.
- Own evaluation metrics and KPIs used for autonomy readiness and safety decisions.
- Present results and tradeoffs to stakeholders and provide insights through interactive dashboards.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of applied experience with robotics or autonomous-systems software spanning perception, planning, and vehicle control.
- At least 3 years leading evaluation of complex dynamic systems using numerical and ML approaches on large-scale time-series data.
- Production development experience with Python and ability to work in large C++ autonomy codebases.
- Cross-team technical leadership experience defining strategies adopted by multiple teams and influencing system and architecture decisions.
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in computer science, robotics, mechanical or aerospace engineering, machine learning, or a related field.
- Preferred experience in autonomous driving or high-stakes field robotics, including large-scale simulation and field experiments.
- Preferred knowledge of statistical modeling, experimental design, hypothesis testing, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and visualization libraries.
- Preferred proficiency in C++ and SQL and experience with logging, data schemas, and large-scale evaluation pipelines.
- Preferred experience with ROS or other interprocess communication, robotics-stack logging, experiment databases, and evaluation platforms.
- Preferred experience with computational geometry, linear algebra, PyTorch, machine learning, agent-interaction modeling, and autonomy release-gating criteria.
