Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end design and delivery of complex, cross-team software features and architectural components.
- Develop and support front-end and back-end applications while translating business and non-functional requirements into scalable systems.
- Define engineering standards, design patterns, test strategies, documentation, and architecture artifacts.
- Architect and improve CI/CD pipelines, release practices, deployment readiness, and rollback processes.
- Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets; improve observability, performance, capacity, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Lead vulnerability remediation, secure coding, secrets and dependency management, SBOM hygiene, and compliance alignment.
- Lead high-priority incident triage, root cause analysis, post-mortems, operational runbooks, and rotating on-call support.
- Mentor and coach engineers, developers, and interns through code reviews, pair programming, training, and technical guidance.
- Collaborate with product, design, QA, operations, subsidiaries, and business stakeholders on technical direction and platform roadmaps.
- Evaluate tools, frameworks, and technical approaches through spikes, proofs of concept, and data-informed improvements.
Requirements
- At least five years of relevant software engineering experience or equivalent demonstrated proficiency, including at least two years leading technical efforts and mentoring engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Engineering, or a similar field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Advanced front-end and back-end engineering capability, with deep expertise in one area and strong competency in the other.
- Experience designing complex web applications, APIs, interface contracts, and architectures with performance, stability, and supportability considerations.
- Strong relational database experience, including Microsoft SQL Server queries, stored procedures, tables, and views, plus working knowledge of NoSQL databases.
- Hands-on experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, environment management, and feature flags.
- Operational experience with cloud-native architectures and Docker and Kubernetes containerization.
- Experience with secure coding, dependency and secrets management, vulnerability remediation, compliance controls, instrumentation, SLIs/SLOs, and resilient system optimization.
- Ability to mentor engineers and influence architectural decisions while communicating effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and full SDLC practices, production support, incident response, and rotating on-call support.
- Proficiency with Visual Studio, VS Code, the Atlassian suite, and Git-based source control.
- Preferred experience with Guidewire Gosu and insurance core-system engineering.
- Preferred familiarity with Angular or other frameworks beyond React and Node.js, plus property and casualty insurance processes.
