Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain mission-critical Android applications using Kotlin.
- Build resilient, offline-capable, fault-tolerant applications for low-connectivity and degraded-network environments.
- Develop modern Android interfaces with Jetpack Compose for high-stress operational workflows.
- Implement scalable modular application architectures for large multi-feature products.
- Integrate backend systems, messaging platforms, device services, Bluetooth, radio interfaces, sensors, GPS/location, and background services.
- Optimize applications for performance, battery efficiency, availability, and operational reliability.
- Implement secure communication, authentication, and data-protection mechanisms.
- Contribute to unit, integration, instrumentation, reliability, and release-quality testing.
- Support CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and operational monitoring for deployed applications.
- Participate in technical design reviews, mentor engineers, and promote engineering best practices.
- Diagnose field issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and deliver durable production fixes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong production Android application development experience using Kotlin and the Android SDK.
- Experience designing high-reliability, enterprise, or mission-critical mobile applications.
- Experience with Jetpack Compose and Android architecture components including ViewModel, Navigation, Lifecycle, and WorkManager.
- Experience implementing offline-first synchronization, caching, and conflict-handling strategies.
- Experience with Bluetooth, device integrations, background processing, or hardware-adjacent APIs.
- Experience with Retrofit, OkHttp, or Ktor networking frameworks.
- Strong debugging, performance optimization, and secure coding skills.
- Experience with Git-based development workflows.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional engineering environments.
- Preferred experience in public safety, communications, defense, or regulated enterprise mobile platforms.
- Preferred experience with radio communications, push-to-talk, messaging, real-time communication, certificate-based authentication, encrypted storage, hardened builds, Hilt, Dagger, Firebase, observability platforms, or operational telemetry tooling.
- Familiarity with modular Android architectures, Kotlin Multiplatform, and Compose Multiplatform.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives is preferred.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery environments is preferred.
