Base Salary
$149k - $253k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect and build highly scalable, low-latency distributed search systems.
- Design and optimize large-scale indexing pipelines, retrieval systems, and hybrid search architecture.
- Develop backend services and APIs using Java and Spring.
- Build real-time and batch data pipelines with streaming frameworks.
- Design event-driven architectures using message brokers such as Kafka.
- Improve search relevance and ranking using machine learning, NLP, Learning to Rank, query understanding, and personalization.
- Define search quality metrics, evaluation frameworks, and experimentation strategies.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across indexing and query layers.
- Own the design, development, deployment, and operation of microservices.
- Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and other security best practices.
- Lead technical design discussions, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
- Collaborate with product, data science, and AI teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- At least 8 years of backend or distributed-systems development experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with large-scale data processing or streaming systems.
- Deep expertise in Java and the JVM ecosystem, plus expert knowledge of Spring Framework.
- Experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems with strong concurrency and performance optimization skills.
- Strong experience with Solr, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Lucene and with indexing, query execution, relevance tuning, and hybrid retrieval.
- Hands-on experience with Learning to Rank, query understanding, and personalization.
- Extensive experience with Apache Beam, Spark, or Storm and knowledge of streaming semantics, windowing, and state management.
- Strong expertise in NoSQL systems, preferably Cassandra, and experience with multi-tenant, high-throughput, and distributed data architectures.
- Production experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems, including event sourcing, CQRS, and backpressure handling.
- Experience with OAuth, service-to-service authentication, encryption, KMS, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and Maven.
- Experience with unit, integration, and distributed-systems testing, including JUnit, Mockito, and embedded test frameworks.
- Strong technical leadership, ownership, architectural decision-making, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
