Responsibilities
- Architect and build scalable, low-latency distributed search systems.
- Design and optimize large-scale indexing pipelines and hybrid retrieval systems.
- Develop backend services and REST APIs using Java and Spring.
- Build real-time and batch data pipelines with streaming frameworks.
- Design event-driven architectures using message brokers such as Kafka.
- Improve search relevance and ranking using ML/NLP, Learning to Rank, query understanding, personalization, and LLM-based reranking.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across indexing and query layers.
- Define search-quality metrics, evaluation frameworks, and experimentation strategies.
- Ensure reliability, scalability, fault tolerance, security, and complete microservice lifecycle ownership.
- Lead technical design discussions, influence architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product, data science, and AI teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- At least 8 years of backend or distributed-systems development experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with large-scale data processing or streaming systems.
- Deep expertise in Java and the JVM ecosystem, plus expert knowledge of Spring Framework.
- Experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems and optimizing concurrency, multithreading, and performance.
- Strong experience with Solr, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Lucene and with indexing, query execution, relevance tuning, hybrid retrieval, and Learning to Rank.
- Extensive experience with Apache Beam, Spark, or Storm and knowledge of streaming semantics, windowing, and state management.
- Expertise with NoSQL systems, preferably Cassandra, along with document stores, schema design, multi-tenant architectures, and distributed data consistency.
- Production experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems and understanding of event sourcing, CQRS, and backpressure.
- Experience with OAuth, service-to-service authentication, encryption, KMS, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and Maven.
- Strong experience with unit, integration, and distributed-system testing, including familiarity with JUnit, Mockito, and embedded test frameworks.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, architectural decision-making, ownership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration.
