Responsibilities
- Lead deep-dive performance investigations across JVM-based microservices and identify systemic bottlenecks.
- Reduce latency and infrastructure costs by tuning JVM parameters, garbage collection, and heap and off-heap memory.
- Build diagnostic and observability tooling using eBPF, JFR, and Flamegraphs.
- Optimize Linux scheduling, cgroups, CPU throttling, and JVM resource isolation within Kubernetes.
- Diagnose concurrency issues, lock contention, race conditions, and memory leaks.
- Architect scalable infrastructure improvements and align orchestration strategies with system performance goals.
- Mentor engineers and share expertise in JVM internals and performance best practices.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of JVM internals, including JIT compilation, class loading, and intrinsic methods.
- Extensive experience tuning ZGC, G1, and Shenandoah for large heaps and low-latency workloads.
- Deep understanding of Linux scheduling, including CFS and EEVDF, and high-concurrency Java workloads.
- Mastery of heap and off-heap memory, Direct Buffers, memory-mapped files, and memory-leak diagnosis.
- Advanced experience with Flamegraphs, JFR, eBPF, and large-scale heap dump analysis.
- Extensive experience with cgroups, CPU throttling, and JVM quotas in Kubernetes/EKS.
- Proven ability to resolve complex concurrency problems, lock contention, and race conditions at the instruction level.
- Knowledge of AWS infrastructure and its performance characteristics.
- Experience contributing to OpenJDK or other low-level runtime environments is a significant advantage.
- Ability to make long-term technical design decisions, identify root causes, and mentor others.
