Base Salary
$195k - $343k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate highly available backend services serving hundreds of millions of users across push, email, and SMS channels.
- Own the end-to-end architecture of Growth Notifications with a focus on reliability, observability, cost efficiency, and sustainable growth impact.
- Set technical direction, define multi-quarter roadmaps, and lead ambiguous initiatives from concept through launch and iteration.
- Integrate upstream signals and downstream use cases into a coherent, scalable notification platform.
- Apply distributed-systems best practices, including SLIs/SLOs, incident management, cost management, and safe iterative delivery.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance that improves team effectiveness.
Requirements
- 9+ years of post-Bachelor’s software development experience, or a Master’s degree in a technical field plus 8+ years of post-graduate experience, or a PhD in a related technical field plus 5+ years of post-graduate experience.
- Experience designing, building, and operating backend services or distributed systems at significant scale.
- A track record of owning highly available, mission-critical systems, including on-call participation, incident response, and systemic fixes.
- Strong system design knowledge covering APIs, data models, storage, pub/sub, queues, workflow orchestration, and performance optimization.
- Deep experience with observability, including metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and data-driven debugging.
- Experience operating reliable, scalable services in cloud technologies with emphasis on observability, cost efficiency, and incident response.
- Preferred experience with Java, Go, C++, or Python; NoSQL data stores; Memcache or Redis; Google Cloud or AWS; and Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, or Cloud Tasks.
- Experience with notification, messaging, growth, or experimentation platforms, including ranking, targeting, and A/B testing at scale.
- Ability to lead technical strategy across teams and communicate effectively with Product, Data Science, Machine Learning, Design, and engineering stakeholders.
