Responsibilities
- Participate in all phases of the product lifecycle, including design, development, documentation, testing, integration, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Build and evolve distributed core platform services that ingest, transform, and materialize observability data.
- Develop event-driven applications and event-streaming solutions at scale.
- Design high-performance, scalable systems from macro architecture through micro-level optimizations.
- Orchestrate application deployments on Kubernetes and investigate deployment or runtime issues.
- Design complex data models and manage their evolution to preserve backward compatibility.
- Tune JVM garbage collection, investigate CPU hotspots, and analyze heap dumps for memory leaks.
- Instrument application metrics and use monitoring and observability tools to identify root causes of issues.
- Mentor team members and contribute to team support, quality, and testing practices.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience building complex distributed systems as a predominantly backend Java developer.
- Deep understanding of core Java, data structures, and concurrency, including experience building applications without relying primarily on frameworks such as Spring.
- Experience building event-driven applications with Kafka and event-streaming frameworks such as Flink, Kafka Streams, or Spark beyond basic ETL pipelines.
- Experience orchestrating applications on Kubernetes, including services, deployments, and stateful sets.
- Ability to design scalable systems and address data consistency versus availability trade-offs.
- Experience designing complex data models and managing their evolution for backward compatibility.
- Experience or familiarity with JVM performance tuning, garbage collection, CPU hotspot analysis, heap dumps, memory leaks, custom metrics, and observability tools.
