Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and evolve the AQL execution engine and query optimizer.
- Improve query-processing performance, scalability, and capabilities across documents, graphs, and search.
- Evaluate database research and translate relevant academic ideas into production features and optimizations.
- Own unit, integration, performance, and regression testing for delivered work.
- Drive projects from planning and design through implementation and delivery.
- Independently investigate customer issues, perform root-cause analysis, and deliver tested fixes.
- Participate in technical discussions, sprint and roadmap planning, and product decisions.
- Mentor junior developers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, ideally including significant work on database systems, query engines, compilers, or other performance-critical infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to independently deliver complex technical projects from design through production.
- Experience with distributed databases, distributed query execution, or cluster-aware query planning is preferred.
- Familiarity with graph databases and graph traversal algorithms, or full-text and vector search, is preferred.
- Experience with query languages beyond SQL, such as Cypher, Gremlin, or AQL, is preferred.
- Database research experience, including a Master’s or PhD focused on query processing or published work in the field, is preferred.
- Experience with Linux systems programming, perf, Valgrind, or sanitizers and CI/CD pipelines is preferred.
- Experience working directly with customers on technical issues is preferred.
