Responsibilities
- Lead technical design and architecture for complex, cross-functional features and scalable platform capabilities.
- Build and own shared authentication, authorization, API tooling, webhook infrastructure, messaging pipelines, AI integrations, and CI/CD tooling.
- Write and maintain production code in Java, Kotlin, and TypeScript across cloud-native services.
- Lead third-party integrations with payment processors, identity providers, OEM data feeds, and external APIs.
- Drive performance, reliability, resilience patterns, incident response, and root cause analysis.
- Make AWS infrastructure decisions involving serverless, containers, messaging, and data services.
- Manage CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code using GitLab CI, Gradle, Terraform, and Serverless Framework.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pairing, design reviews, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and architectural guidance in Confluence.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI/ML tooling, and make platform recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Deep expertise in Java, Kotlin, Groovy, and the Jakarta EE ecosystem, including JPA, Wildfly/JBoss, or Spring.
- Strong proficiency with TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, and backend frameworks such as NestJS.
- Experience architecting and delivering distributed cloud-native systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, and RESTful APIs.
- Hands-on AWS experience with Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, S3, SNS, SQS, EKS, ElastiCache, and DynamoDB.
- Advanced PostgreSQL and data-store experience, including Redis/Valkey and MongoDB, query optimization, indexing, and schema design.
- Experience designing authentication and authorization systems using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, Okta, and FusionAuth.
- Production-level experience with Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.
- Experience leading or contributing to legacy rewrites, on-premises-to-cloud migrations, or major platform re-architectures.
- Experience with RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS, and ETCD-backed configuration management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction across teams.
- AWS Certification, such as Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect, or AI Practitioner, is preferred.
- Preferred experience includes developer platform or framework teams, AI/ML integration patterns, LLM APIs, prompt engineering, agentic workflows, Terraform, Serverless Framework, GitLab CI, desktop-to-web migrations, payment integrations, PCI compliance, Gradle, Ant, TDD, Jest, Datadog, distributed tracing, SLOs/SLIs, mentoring or teaching, Linux/Unix, Python, Bash, and Oracle Certified Java Programmer certification.
