Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate scalable services for Mapbox’s API and routing engine tiers.
- Improve services supporting routing-data consumption and storage.
- Develop Mapbox tools, internal automations, quality metrics, and analytics.
- Run experiments evaluating product quality, reliability, and capacity.
- Participate in end-to-end feature implementation, code and design reviews, release shepherding, and on-call operations.
- Drive technical strategy and collaborate with product owners, sales engineering, management, and cross-functional teams.
- Monitor systems, triage incidents, resolve customer issues, and improve product quality.
Requirements
- Experience engineering web services in Rust or TypeScript with Node.js.
- Experience building highly available API services in container-based environments such as Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes on AWS.
- Proficiency with monitoring instrumentation, incident triage, customer issue resolution, and continuous product improvement.
- Knowledge of operating systems and distributed systems, including fault tolerance, consistency, and service discovery.
- Experience developing long-term technical strategies and reducing systemic technical debt across departments.
- Extensive experience driving high-visibility initiatives that improve engineering standards and operational excellence.
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience or interest in solving geo-spatial problems.
- Mentorship experience, knowledge sharing, rigorous problem solving, and using experiments and data analysis to improve quality of service.
