Responsibilities
- Build and maintain an organization-wide quality risk model for the full streaming chain.
- Define release constraints, quality gates, and the criteria for releasable backend, middleware, web, TV, and mobile software.
- Establish staged rollout, canary, and rollback strategies collaboratively with engineering and SRE/Ops.
- Set test architecture principles covering unit, end-to-end, performance, playback, stream validation, integration, and contract testing.
- Partner on major quality incidents and convert production failures into tests, monitors, gate changes, and rollout improvements.
- Define standards for test frameworks, CI integration, test data, environments, reporting, and AI-assisted testing.
- Embed risk-based testing, quality practices in pull requests, flake policies, critical-path coverage, and quality standards into engineering teams.
- Influence high-risk design reviews and mentor engineers without managing a QA organization.
Requirements
- Senior individual contributor track record in quality engineering or equivalent for complex, multi-service products, ideally in streaming, media, or high-availability consumer platforms.
- Experience designing whole-stack quality strategies across backend services, configuration or policy layers, and multi-platform clients.
- Ability to define and implement test architecture, ownership boundaries, cross-stack integration, contract, and playback-style validation.
- Strong senior-level software engineering skills, including production-quality coding and designing systems for testability.
- Experience building automation as a first-class engineering product and applying practical judgment to avoid brittle test suites.
- Deep familiarity with CI/CD and a record of making pipelines faster and more reliable.
- Hands-on experience applying AI to quality engineering, including judgment about when it reduces risk or adds noise.
- Experience partnering on incidents and turning production failure modes into durable quality improvements.
- Strong influence and communication skills, with the ability to establish standards and enforce quality gates without formal authority.
- Bonus experience with video ingest, encoding, packaging, playback, or multi-tenant configuration and policy surfaces.
- Experience working across web, TV, and mobile client quality risks, including device, operating system, and app-store constraints.
