Base Salary
$120k - $261k/yr
Responsibilities
- Identify product and engineering opportunities using user feedback, experimentation, and technical insight.
- Shape technical direction and balance near-term product needs with long-term maintainability.
- Design, implement, test, and deliver VS Code features while coordinating contributors and partner-team dependencies.
- Own post-release outcomes through adoption analysis, quality investigation, telemetry, evaluations, and user feedback.
- Improve responsiveness and reliability through profiling, debugging, automated testing, and engineering tools.
- Collaborate publicly with developers and extension authors and mentor engineers through design and code reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience coding in JavaScript, TypeScript, Rust, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred candidates have 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering and maintaining production features or substantial components.
- Experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, or Rust and the ability to become productive in a large codebase.
- Experience leading technical design and hands-on delivery for complex, multi-contributor projects.
- Experience building interactive applications with attention to performance, accessibility, or cross-platform behavior.
- Experience designing APIs, extension points, or reusable components.
- Experience using direct user feedback, telemetry, or experiments to improve products.
- Familiarity with AI coding tools and experience building AI-powered features, developer tools, or open-source projects are preferred.
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud and other applicable security screening requirements.
Benefits
- The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $119,800–$234,700 per year, with a separate range for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
- This position is open for at least five days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until filled.
