Base Salary
$160k - $200k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own physics architecture, including data models, simulation loops, solver strategies, and integration points across engine and simulation systems.
- Implement collision detection, entity controllers, vehicle dynamics, orbital mechanics, particles, fluid mechanics, and atmospheric dynamics.
- Integrate physics-driven interactions with gameplay, animation, rendering, authoring tools, and runtime systems.
- Profile and optimize frame time, memory, multithreading, job systems, SIMD, and GPU compute across platforms.
- Establish physics test suites, golden scenarios, verification and validation practices, and stability improvements.
- Build debugging tools, visualizers, probes, and authoring pipelines for designers and QA.
- Partner with backend, AI, data pipeline, platform, product management, design, and technical art teams.
- Set technical direction, mentor engineers, lead reviews, and establish coding, documentation, and reproducibility standards.
- Own crash triage, regression control, and post-launch physics support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of real-time or game physics engineering experience and at least two shipped titles with substantial physics ownership; AA/AAA experience is preferred.
- Expertise in modern C++, data-oriented design, memory management, profiling, and debugging.
- Strong knowledge of rigid-body dynamics, collision detection, integration schemes, constraint solvers, numerical stability, and real-time performance trade-offs.
- Experience integrating physics with animation, inverse kinematics, gameplay systems, and rendering pipelines.
- Experience with multithreading, job systems, SIMD/vectorization, cache-friendly data structures, and frame and memory budgeting.
- Preferred experience with Unreal Engine Chaos, Unity DOTS/Physics, Havok, Bullet, PhysX, or custom engines.
- Preferred experience with fracture systems, granular materials, vehicle tire models, buoyancy, aerodynamics, GPU compute, CUDA, or compute shaders.
- Preferred experience with deterministic simulation, rollback and prediction, server authority, and cross-platform latency mitigation.
- Preferred shipping experience on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC, including platform certification requirements.
- Preferred Python, C#, or Lua experience for tools and editor extensions.
- Preferred expertise in broad-phase structures, island building, sleeping strategies, continuous collision detection, job scheduling, and affinity tuning.
