Responsibilities
- Lead a team owning physics architecture, including data models, simulation loops, solver strategies, and engine integration points.
- Design and implement collision detection, entity controllers, vehicle and orbital dynamics, particle and fluid systems, and physics-driven gameplay and animation interactions.
- Design, implement, and optimize real-time rendering pipelines, shaders, graphics API integrations, lighting, post-processing, and material systems.
- Profile and optimize frame time, memory, multithreading, job systems, SIMD, and GPU compute across platforms.
- Establish physics test suites, golden scenarios, verification and validation practices, and regression and crash-triage processes.
- Build debugging tools, visualizers, probes, authoring pipelines, and workflows for designers, technical artists, and QA.
- Lead cross-functional technical efforts and communicate engine constraints, trade-offs, milestones, and technical decisions to teams and leadership.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, conduct code reviews, write design documentation, and enforce coding and engineering standards.
- Support post-launch content changes while maintaining simulation stability and performance.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of real-time or game physics engineering experience and two shipped titles with substantial physics ownership; AA/AAA experience is preferred.
- Expertise in modern C++, data-oriented design, memory management, profiling, and debugging.
- Experience with rigid-body dynamics, collision detection, integration schemes, constraint solvers, numerical stability, and real-time performance trade-offs.
- Experience integrating physics with animation, gameplay systems, and rendering pipelines.
- Experience with multithreading, job systems, SIMD/vectorization, cache-friendly data structures, and frame and memory budgeting.
- Proven ability to lead cross-disciplinary engineering efforts and communicate complex technical topics clearly.
- Preferred experience includes 15+ years with modern game engines or middleware, including Unreal Engine, Unity, Havok, Bullet, PhysX, or custom engines.
- Preferred experience includes advanced simulation, fracture systems, granular materials, vehicle tire models, buoyancy or aerodynamic effects, and GPU compute.
- Preferred experience includes deterministic networking, rollback and prediction, server authority models, console shipping, platform certification, and physics tooling using Python, C#, or Lua.
