Responsibilities
- Lead full-stack design and delivery of AI-native solutions for complex cross-functional problems
- Drive technical architecture across backend services, APIs, frontend interfaces, and developer-facing interfaces
- Build and integrate LLM-powered agents, tools, and workflows into product and platform contexts
- Set and uphold standards for code quality, system design, testing, and operational practices
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing
- Partner with stakeholders across Toast engineering to define scope, align approaches, and deliver outcomes
- Represent the pod in cross-team architecture discussions and connect its work to broader engineering patterns
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience designing and delivering scalable software systems with a strong full-stack background
- Experience leading technical architecture for a platform, product, or engineering team
- Experience building, deploying, or operating LLM-powered agents or AI platform infrastructure
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, including extending them with custom plugins, skills, or hooks
- Experience with MCP, tool-use patterns, or similar agentic integration frameworks
- Strong prompt engineering skills and intuition for LLM behavior in response to context and instructions
- Strong foundation in modern backend technologies such as Java or Kotlin and frontend technologies such as TypeScript or React
- Familiarity with A2A protocols and multi-agent orchestration patterns is advantageous
- Experience with machine learning concepts, model evaluation, or ML infrastructure is advantageous
- Experience building developer experience platforms or internal tooling is advantageous
- Familiarity with AI/LLM observability tooling such as Langfuse or DataDog is advantageous
