Responsibilities
- Build and refine controls that prevent Wise customers from scams.
- Develop backend and frontend functionality for scam prevention and detection systems, with approximately 80% backend and 20% frontend work.
- Improve financial crime prevention infrastructure, systems, automation, and detection capabilities.
- Take end-to-end ownership of projects and make data-driven decisions focused on customer outcomes.
- Design and operate scalable web applications, distributed systems, concurrent systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Design resilient relational and non-relational database schemas and optimize queries.
Requirements
- Professional experience with Java or other JVM-based languages and the Spring framework.
- Experience building and designing scalable web applications that handle large amounts of traffic, ideally with React-based frontend applications and JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Proven experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines and distributed and concurrent systems.
- Strong product mindset, accountability, independent project ownership, and data-driven decision-making ability.
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, query optimization, and resilient schema design.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, problem-solving skills, and commitment to test-driven development and best coding practices.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts across Product, Data Science, and Investigations teams.
- Familiarity with the machine learning lifecycle, including data pipelines, feature engineering, and deploying ML systems into production, is preferred.
