Base Salary
$231k - $318k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define the end-to-end technical architecture and roadmap for Faire’s search and discovery experience.
- Design composable grids, intent-aware routing, and orchestration layers that unify retrieval and ranking.
- Use LLMs to modernize query understanding and improve accuracy for long-tail queries and edge cases.
- Increase retrieval candidate volume while maintaining stable, low-latency search performance.
- Develop AI-driven features such as Search Missions using offline pipelines and LLMs to recover failed search sessions.
- Partner with client engineers on SDUI and React Server Components to improve dynamic search layouts, performance, and developer velocity.
- Own reliability and observability across the search funnel, including query planner refactors and real-time retrieval monitoring.
- Collaborate with Data Science, Product, and Design on ranking models and user experience.
- Mentor engineers and promote technical excellence, ownership, and sound decision-making.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 3+ years of experience as a technical leader driving complex, cross-team projects.
- Strong programming skills in Kotlin or Java and experience building high-performance backend systems.
- Experience with Protocol Buffers and MySQL.
- Experience partnering with Data Science to deploy and leverage machine learning and generative-AI systems in search experiences across ranking and retrieval.
- Knowledge of search and query processing, including traditional, semantic, and hybrid frameworks such as Elasticsearch and Lucene.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical direction and contribute to team strategy without supervision.
- Ability to influence the broader organizational roadmap and collaborate across teams.
