Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and maintain packet-processing, protocol-parsing, metadata-extraction, and downstream-delivery capabilities.
- Improve scalable Linux network data-path architecture, including packet ingestion, traffic steering, parser execution, and metadata modeling.
- Use AI-assisted development tools for investigation, implementation, test generation, and code review while maintaining engineering rigor.
- Work across parsing, serialization, metadata modeling, validation, performance, and downstream platform integration.
- Build end-to-end feedback loops and test harnesses for validating data-plane behavior.
- Diagnose correctness, performance, memory, concurrency, and reliability issues in complex packet-processing systems.
- Collaborate with Product, Security Research, Data Science, and engineering teams to deliver technical outcomes.
- Contribute to technical direction, design reviews, and engineering standards for network data-plane development.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 5+ years of production C++ experience in systems, infrastructure, networking, or other performance-sensitive environments.
- Meaningful Rust experience or demonstrated ability to build production-quality systems in Rust or another memory-safe systems language.
- Strong Python coding, debugging, automation, and code review experience.
- Experience developing and debugging software on Debian-based Linux or similar Linux environments.
- Hands-on protocol experience, including packet-capture inspection with Wireshark or equivalent tools and parsing or serialization development.
- Experience with data-path technologies such as DPDK, XDP/AF_XDP, kernel-bypass networking, or high-performance packet capture.
- Understanding of NIC queues, RSS, tunneling, offloads, routing, traffic steering, and packet-processing hardware constraints.
- Systems-programming depth in Linux networking internals, memory ownership, data structures, concurrency, CPU/cache behavior, and performance diagnosis.
- Experience building reliable systems where correctness, throughput, latency, and operational reliability matter.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems using measurement, logs, traces, packet captures, profiling, and careful reasoning.
- Ability to take ownership of ambiguous problems, make tradeoffs visible, and drive solutions to completion.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across distributed teams.
- Preferred: experience with protocol parsers, packet-processing systems, network telemetry, high-throughput data pipelines, parser validation, fuzzing, golden datasets, packet replay, or property-based testing.
- Preferred: familiarity with DPDK, Linux networking internals, eBPF, XDP/AF_XDP, Suricata, Zeek, or similar systems.
- Preferred: experience tuning CPU, memory, NUMA, storage, and network boundaries; designing metadata schemas; and using CI/CD, Jenkins, or Git-based development workflows.

About Vectra
Vectra builds an AI-driven threat detection and response platform (NDR/XDR) for enterprises operating hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Its software correlates signals across network, cloud, identity, and SaaS systems to surface attacker behavior, prioritize incidents, and automate response, sold as a subscription platform. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in San Jose, California, Vectra is privately held and serves security teams in regulated and large-scale organizations.
