Responsibilities
- Define and document software requirements and software architecture for embedded connected products.
- Collaborate with hardware teams on MCU selection and system-level hardware/software co-design.
- Participate in DFMEA and define software safety requirements, safety designs, and risk mitigation approaches.
- Define and implement secure software architecture covering authentication, encryption, secure boot, secure provisioning, and OTA updates.
- Integrate BLE and Wi-Fi connectivity and secure cloud communication.
- Size work packages, present alternative technical solutions, and facilitate stakeholder decisions.
- Guide and mentor internal and JDM supplier software development teams through design, implementation, validation, and delivery.
- Lead design reviews, assure code quality, and validate supplier-developed software against requirements and compliance expectations.
- Maintain development-process oversight and provide technical solutions throughout projects.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration, supplier relationships, and continuous process improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, telecommunications, or computer engineering, or equivalent.
- 8+ years of embedded systems software development experience covering requirements analysis, design, coding, and testing.
- 3 years of experience as a software architect.
- Advanced proficiency in C, C++, UML, RTOS, and/or embedded Linux.
- Strong understanding of MCU architecture and experience selecting MCUs for embedded systems.
- Extensive experience with I2C, SPI, UART, MQTT, and DIPC communication protocols.
- Expertise with Wi-Fi, BLE, and NFC connectivity standards and practical knowledge of MQTT and HTTPS.
- Experience with cloud integration, OTA firmware updates, secure provisioning, and embedded software security.
- Experience with hardware/software co-design, DFMEA, safety analysis, software safety standards, and secure software architecture.
- Ability to refine requirements, define architecture, size work, present options, guide JDM suppliers, document decisions, and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Understanding of Agile development, requirements management, version control, regulatory compliance, product certification, coding standards, testing strategies, and software validation.
- Willingness to travel and work onsite at JDM supplier locations as required.
