Responsibilities

  • Build, extend, and maintain reusable design-system components, including variants, states, and responsive behavior.
  • Implement small-to-medium frontend changes across OCC products, including interface flows, spacing, and typography improvements.
  • Translate design mockups and prototypes into accessible, reusable frontend code while identifying edge cases and technical constraints.
  • Improve component documentation and usage examples for other engineers.
  • Contribute to accessibility work involving keyboard navigation, screen readers, color contrast, and compliance.
  • Write and maintain unit and visual regression tests for components.
  • Participate in code reviews, standups, release cycles, and UI technical-debt reduction.
  • Present internship work to the broader engineering and design organization.

Requirements

  • Be a rising senior or second-year graduate student graduating in December 2027 or May/August 2028.
  • Be actively enrolled at a college or university during the internship program.
  • Computer Science is the desired major, though majors may be flexible.
  • Have knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Familiarity with React is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with TypeScript and Tailwind is a bonus.
  • Interest in user-focused and accessible practices is a plus.

Benefits

  • 12-week seasonal summer 2027 internship running either May through August or June through September.
  • Hybrid work in Chicago, generally requiring at least three days per week in an OCC office, with Tuesday and Wednesday as anchor days.
  • Interns may work up to 40 hours per week; overtime is not permitted.
  • Interns are eligible only for paid sick leave accrued based on hours worked, with no other benefits or technology stipend.
  • Mentorship and participation in production engineering practices, including code reviews, standups, and release cycles.
