Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy automation and runtime infrastructure for Apple’s satellite connectivity network.
- Keep connectivity services healthy end-to-end across satellite, ground, cloud, and operations systems.
- Investigate root causes involving telemetry, cloud services, ground systems, hardware, and operations partners.
- Write network test cases, system health tooling, and production software in Python.
- Extend continuous delivery pipelines and automate manual operational procedures with tested code.
- Create precise procedures, SOPs, and runbooks for on-call issue resolution.
- Carry the pager for the systems built and support a 24/7 operations environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including production Python.
- Experience automating satellite constellations or fleets of autonomous vehicles or drones.
- Ability to independently navigate and reason about large code repositories spanning embedded and cloud-based software.
- Hands-on fluency with Linux, macOS, cloud service APIs, command-line usage, and HTTP tooling.
- Experience with CI and production continuous delivery pipelines for a software service.
- Experience using design documents and interface control documents as foundations for operational services.
- Eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology and technical data regulated under the Export Administration Regulations.
- Preferred: production experience operating a satellite constellation serving real users.
- Preferred: embedded software development and hands-on hardware lab experience.
- Preferred: working knowledge of RF and DSP concepts sufficient to reason about satellite system behavior.
- Preferred: experience in small, fast-moving space programs where operations engineers own the software they operate.
- Preferred: experience leading or serving as a core member of a 24/7 operations team.
- Preferred: experience building an SOP or runbook framework from scratch.
- Preferred: experience using AI tools to reason about and prototype new systems.
