Base Salary

$171k - $203k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve AWS-based backend services for availability, fault tolerance, performance, and scale.
  • Design and implement authentication and authorization using OIDC, OAuth 2.0, token handling, service-to-service authentication, and access control.
  • Develop and maintain REST APIs and streaming or real-time endpoints for weather and aviation data.
  • Improve metrics, logging, tracing, observability, and SLO tracking for owned services.
  • Participate in production operations, on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems.
  • Apply secure engineering practices and support compliance with NIST and ISO/IEC 27001 standards.
  • Lead projects from technical design through rollout and mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and design discussions.
  • Contribute to testing, deployment, infrastructure-as-code, change management, documentation, and architecture practices.
  • Collaborate with product owners and data scientists to align backend services with customer and mission needs.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional backend software development experience, including substantial experience operating and scaling production systems.
  • Demonstrated success improving system reliability, uptime, incident rates, and capacity as usage grows.
  • Strong hands-on AWS experience, including services such as ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, IAM, and VPC networking.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation.
  • Strong knowledge of OIDC and OAuth 2.0, identity providers, JWT handling, and secure session and token management.
  • Experience designing and operating REST APIs and streaming or real-time data endpoints.
  • Experience working under NIST or ISO/IEC 27001 security standards.
  • Proficiency in Python or another backend language such as Go, Java, or TypeScript/Node.js.
  • Strong documentation, collaboration, communication, and architectural decision-making skills.
  • Preferred experience with the Pangeo ecosystem, xarray, Dask, Zarr, Jupyter, or other scientific and geospatial data tooling.
  • Preferred weather or aviation experience, including GRIB2, NetCDF, METAR/TAF, ADS-B, or FAA regulatory contexts.

  • Hybrid work model requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.
  • Base salary range of $171,000—$202,500 USD, plus eligibility for commissions and annual equity awards.
