Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the development of critical systems, services, and infrastructure with emphasis on reliability, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Partner with product and program leaders to align engineering solutions with user needs, regulatory requirements, and business outcomes.
- Set and evolve technical standards, address technical debt, improve code review quality, and drive initiatives that improve team velocity and code quality.
- Coach and mentor engineers across teams and help them develop their technical craft and careers.
- Evaluate emerging technologies to drive innovation, reduce complexity, and support scale.
- Contribute directly to codebases, particularly architectural foundations, prototypes, and complex or high-risk areas.
- Identify gaps, facilitate collaboration, and unblock teams without taking over their work.
- Strengthen the engineering culture through curiosity, learning, integrity, and positive team dynamics.
- Help recruit and onboard exceptional engineering talent.
Requirements
- 12+ years of engineering experience across multiple technology stacks, including deep experience building and scaling distributed systems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership through setting direction, influencing others, and delivering results without formal authority.
- Strong software engineering foundation including automated testing, observability, infrastructure as code, and continuous integration and delivery practices.
- Experience with cloud-native systems, preferably AWS, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
- Successful experience in a highly regulated environment, preferably healthcare, with understanding of compliance and data protection such as HIPAA.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including representing engineering in executive and product strategy discussions.
- Passion for teaching, mentoring, and cultivating high-trust, high-autonomy teams.
