Responsibilities

  • Build closed-loop measurement that tracks agent acceptance, reversion, and override outcomes by workflow and guides expansion or reduction of autonomy.
  • Automate bounded autoresearch workflows so agents can formulate hypotheses, launch experiments, evaluate results, and propose or discard changes without human intervention.
  • Design isolation and permissioning systems that let agents act on production repositories and infrastructure with auditable records.
  • Build agent runtime capabilities including orchestration, sandboxing, tool and skill frameworks, memory, identity, permissioning, gateways, and observability.
  • Develop agent-powered engineering tools for code generation, review, debugging, test and CI failure attribution, knowledge retrieval, and triage.
  • Contribute to post-training internal models when justified by Nuro workloads.
  • Operate end-to-end with ownership of evaluation rigor, reliability, security, and production scale.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience, or 2+ years with a master’s degree, in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep, current knowledge of LLM training, tokenization, architectures, pretraining, supervised fine-tuning, preference optimization, reinforcement learning, and post-training evaluation.
  • Understanding of inference systems including attention, KV-cache behavior, batching, scheduling, quantization, speculative decoding, prefix caching, and context handling.
  • Production experience building and operating LLM-based agent systems involving tool use, orchestration, sandboxing, retrieval, and memory.
  • Strong backend and distributed systems experience at scale, including cloud infrastructure, service design, storage, and queuing.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Hands-on post-training or fine-tuning experience, including SFT, preference optimization, reinforcement learning, distillation, and evaluation.
  • Experience with ML training or research infrastructure, experiment orchestration, evaluation pipelines, hyperparameter search, and data pipelines.
  • Experience running inference serving, cost, or capacity at meaningful scale.
  • Familiarity with planning, reflection, long-horizon memory, and multi-agent coordination patterns.
  • Experience with open tool-integration protocols, plugin or skill frameworks, and model-routing or gateway layers.
  • Background in developer experience or platform engineering, observability, or security isolation.
  • Go, C++, or Rust experience in addition to Python.
  • Staff-level candidates should bring correspondingly deeper scope and ownership.
