Responsibilities
- Design and maintain synthetic data-generation systems producing traceable and reproducible datasets.
- Develop and scale data pipelines, ETL workflows, orchestration systems, and distributed processing solutions.
- Apply concurrency, asynchronous execution, streaming or event-driven patterns, and failure recovery to improve reliability and performance.
- Design data models, storage architectures, partitioning, indexing, and retrieval patterns for large data volumes.
- Build data validation frameworks and automated quality checks for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and fitness for use.
- Apply quantitative analysis, profiling, and performance measurement to improve system quality and scalability.
- Integrate and support AI and LLM workflows, including model limitations, output quality, and evaluation requirements.
- Deploy, monitor, operate, and support dependable cloud-based backend systems while balancing scalability, cost, and operational simplicity.
- Own technical solutions from design through implementation, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with engineering, research, design, and product partners and communicate technical decisions, progress, and risks.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering, backend engineering, or data engineering experience, or equivalent significant hands-on experience building and supporting production systems.
- Strong backend programming and systems engineering skills, including maintainable services, modular components, APIs, and automated tests.
- Experience with Python, Java with Spring Boot, or C#/.NET.
- Experience designing, scaling, and maintaining data-generation systems, ETL workflows, distributed data-processing solutions, and cloud-based data pipelines.
- Working knowledge of LLM capabilities, limitations, failure modes, prompting, data quality, and evaluation impacts.
- Understanding of workflow orchestration, concurrency, asynchronous execution, streaming or event-driven architectures, and failure recovery.
- Experience with large-scale data storage, data modeling, retrieval, partitioning, indexing, access patterns, and storage architecture trade-offs.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, technical communication, collaboration, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Practical cloud engineering experience and the ability to work independently in an existing codebase.
- Preferred qualifications include Python backend or data-processing experience, LLM integrations and evaluations, Apache Spark or Kafka, relational and NoSQL databases, cloud object storage, data lakes, observability, deployment automation, monitoring, and Microsoft technologies.
- A portfolio or technical work samples demonstrating relevant engineering experience is preferred but not required.
