Base Salary
$165k - $260k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems and services for Cardless’s financial products
- Contribute to architectural discussions and platform evolution
- Own projects from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, stakeholders, external partners, risk, and compliance
- Drive improvements in system reliability, observability, performance, and developer experience
- Provide technical guidance and thought partnership to engineering peers
Requirements
- Typically 5+ years of industry experience designing and implementing backend systems and services at scale
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, databases, and infrastructure fundamentals
- Proficiency with a modern backend language and ecosystem, such as Java or Python
- Track record of delivering complex technical projects end to end with cross-functional collaboration
- Deep, low-level expertise in one or more backend domains, such as databases, scaling systems, or distributed systems
- Experience building and maintaining external public-facing APIs is preferred
- Familiarity with financial systems, reconciliation workflows, or data integrity challenges is preferred
- Exposure to ML pipelines or feature stores is preferred
