Sr. Software Engineer
Thermo Fisher ScientificResponsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain PC-based instrument control software for scanning electron microscopy products.
- Coordinate instrument subsystems including electron optics, detector electronics, high-voltage electronics, stage motion, vacuum, and peripheral devices.
- Implement configuration, initialization, calibration, diagnostics, and operational workflows.
- Develop reusable frameworks, common libraries, modular components, subsystem interfaces, and device communication software.
- Improve software maintainability, reliability, and scalability through sound engineering practices.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and support integration with hardware prototypes and engineering builds.
- Investigate software and system issues through debugging, testing, and root cause analysis.
- Support software verification, validation, product releases, maintenance, and product enhancements.
- Participate in architecture discussions, technology evaluations, code reviews, documentation, coding standards, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 8+ years of experience developing PC software for scientific instruments or medical devices meeting 21 CFR compliance.
- Strong proficiency in C# and object-oriented software design.
- Strong understanding of multithreaded software development and concurrent programming.
- Experience developing software that interfaces with hardware devices and communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Ethernet, Serial, USB, or CAN.
- Experience with software debugging, system integration, troubleshooting, and version control systems such as Git.
- Preferred experience includes scientific instrumentation such as SEM, mass spectrometry, chromatography, or spectroscopy; detector control; data acquisition; motion control; vacuum control; calibration; diagnostics; service software; Windows desktop applications; AI-assisted programming; and sustaining engineering.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
