Responsibilities
- Develop and implement production-quality backend payment functionality using Java and Spring Boot.
- Design and implement robust, performant REST and SOAP APIs.
- Build and manage payment capabilities including 3D Secure, SEPA/IBAN direct debits, unpaid-payment processing, PSP integrations, and new payment methods such as Wero.
- Contribute to technical architecture decisions and work across banking and logistics domains.
- Optimize latency and throughput, ensure 24/7 high availability, and implement monitoring and observability metrics.
- Handle production incidents and apply unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices.
- Collaborate with product, business, and other teams, share technical knowledge, and document solutions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of backend development experience.
- Significant experience on at least one long-term project involving payment flows and payment methods.
- Experience with high-availability and high-load environments.
- Strong Java and Spring Boot skills at a senior level.
- Experience designing REST/SOAP APIs, working with relational databases such as MySQL, and using ORM technologies including Hibernate and JPA.
- Experience implementing observability metrics and working with high-performance distributed systems.
- Autonomy, pragmatism, curiosity, persistence, teamwork, and the ability to communicate with business teams.
- Interest in progressing technically rather than becoming a lead or manager in the short term.
