$181k - $238k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale fault-tolerant distributed systems using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot.
- Develop and optimize high-throughput Kafka event pipelines, including partition strategies, consumer groups, and exactly-once processing.
- Build low-latency event-streaming systems with strong data integrity, cache coherence, and sub-millisecond read paths.
- Partner with product and engineering leadership on cross-domain technical decisions and architectural integrity.
- Diagnose and permanently resolve production issues in a live real-money trading environment.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and technical risks before they affect trading operations.
- Raise engineering standards through design documents, code reviews, architecture reviews, and reusable patterns.
Requirements
- 7+ years building scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems in production.
- Expert proficiency in Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot, with strong knowledge of REST, gRPC, and Protobuf API design.
- Deep hands-on Kafka experience, or comparable Redpanda or Pub/Sub experience, including partitioning, consumer-group rebalancing, and delivery guarantees.
- Deep experience with event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging under production load.
- End-to-end ownership of designing, building, operating, and improving production systems.
- Strong performance engineering skills across latency, throughput, and data-pipeline efficiency.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including design documentation and explaining production failures and trade-offs.
- Comfort with ambiguity, rapid delivery, and making decisions while requirements are still evolving.
- Preferred: experience with WebSocket fan-out, server-sent events, or pub/sub at scale.
- Preferred: familiarity with financial platforms, real-time trading systems, or prediction markets.
- Preferred: experience in a high-growth startup environment with broad ownership.
- Preferred: familiarity with FIX protocol or exchange connectivity patterns.
