Base Salary
$227k - $417k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems using Scala.
- Build reusable components and services for ML applications including personalization, search, ads, and exploration.
- Partner with ML engineers to identify challenges and develop scalable solutions for the ML inference stack.
- Use data-driven analysis to optimize infrastructure latency, cost, and efficiency.
- Lead large-scale cross-functional refactorings when needed.
- Mentor engineers on system design, incident management, interviewing, and leveraging LLMs for work.
- Collaborate with ML, Product, and engineering teams to define the long-term vision and architecture for ML Infrastructure.
- For Principal-level work, drive technical vision, architecture and technology choices, complex technical problem-solving, cross-functional influence, and mentoring.
Requirements
- Experience designing and building scalable distributed systems in a modern backend language such as Scala, Java, Python, Go, or C++; Scala or JVM experience is a plus.
- Strong experience with AWS or an equivalent cloud platform.
- Experience building low-latency online microservices at scale.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, message brokers, and caching systems, including examples such as Postgres, Cassandra, Kafka, and Redis.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Led response and resolution efforts for multiple major large-scale incidents.
- Familiarity with ML infrastructure, including inference engines such as TorchServe, Triton, or vLLM; vector stores such as LanceDB or FAISS; feature stores such as Feast; ElastiCache; and model training orchestration.
- Understanding of ML model training pipelines and model internals; recommender systems, search, autocomplete, and ads ML experience is a plus.
- Previous experience with Akka, Erlang, Elixir, or Go is a bonus.
- Proficiency in data-driven analysis of complex A/B testing results is a bonus.
