Responsibilities
- Own the architecture, development, and quality of the department’s data products.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ELT pipelines using Databricks Delta Live Tables.
- Collaborate with source-system owners to define and align data contracts.
- Implement and oversee data governance and security standards within Unity Catalog.
- Perform technical and root cause analysis to improve data quality and pipeline reliability.
- Build strong working relationships with development teams and the Zalando Data Foundation.
- Document and share working methods and lessons learned to support a high-performance data culture.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with the Databricks ecosystem, including Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables, and Workflows.
- Deep understanding of Medallion Architecture and Delta Lake internals.
- Proficiency in Apache Spark, PySpark, and Python for large-scale data processing.
- Several years of experience building and maintaining scalable streaming and batch pipelines using CDC from relational databases such as MySQL and BinLogs.
- Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, Git, trunk-based development, and DevOps principles.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into robust, denormalized data models optimized for Lakehouse performance.
- Understanding of AWS, REST APIs, and secure data exchange.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including the ability to document designs and processes accurately.
