Responsibilities
- Own backend services from design through production.
- Build and scale customer-facing web services for authentication, authorization, availability, spam control, reliability, and performance under load.
- Debug production issues involving real-world load and concurrency.
- Reason about distributed-system consistency, partitioning, and failure modes.
- Build frameworks used by internal teams, other teams, and the developer community.
- Manage dependencies across multiple teams while maintaining quality.
- Make and communicate technical decisions through design documents and cross-functional discussions.
Requirements
- Deep production experience building and operating systems at scale, including debugging issues that reproduce under real load or concurrency.
- Deep Java knowledge, including the memory model, garbage collection behavior and tuning, allocation pressure, java.util.concurrent, and virtual threads versus classic reactive models.
- Proven experience building and scaling customer-facing web services.
- Strong distributed-systems knowledge covering consistency, partitioning, and failure modes.
- Strong knowledge of data storage and caching technologies such as Postgres, Cassandra, Redis, and memcached or similar.
- Experience writing REST-based services using Netty or similar frameworks.
- Preferred knowledge of cryptography standards and protocols including PKCS, KMIP, X.509, AES, KDF, and CA.
- Familiarity with ML systems, frameworks, and algorithms.
- Familiarity with GitHub, Maven, Docker, Spinnaker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience collaborating across teams and time zones in ambiguous, highly interdependent environments.
- Knowledge and experience with CI/CD tooling and full automation testing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions and write clear design documents.
