Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of functions, deployment of new payments products and capabilities, and enhancement of payment-processing workflows.
- Analyze business processes, system processes, payments standards, and payment scheme requirements to define high-level solutions.
- Design and build fault-tolerant, loosely coupled microservices using circuit breakers, bulkheads, and active-active replication for 99.99% availability.
- Integrate AI/ML capabilities for predictive scaling, anomaly detection, and automated self-healing of payment systems.
- Develop high-throughput, event-driven pipelines for real-time payment and transaction data processing.
- Ensure payment-platform designs support PCI-DSS, AML/KYC transaction monitoring, payment scheme rules, and operational-risk requirements.
- Develop application methodologies and standards for analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and implementation.
- Consult with payments product owners and business stakeholders to define system specifications and overall system design.
- Allocate work and advise or coach developers, analysts, and new team members.
- Influence and negotiate with senior leaders and communicate with external parties.
- Assess and manage technology, regulatory, operational, and control risks in accordance with Citi policies and applicable laws.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in enterprise payments or financial transaction-processing systems.
- Advanced application-development expertise using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and reactive programming frameworks.
- Proficiency in Java and Python, with experience designing and maintaining enterprise-scale distributed payments platforms.
- Experience designing resilient microservices with circuit breakers, bulkheads, active-active replication, and high-availability patterns.
- Experience with event-driven and message-based architectures using Apache Kafka or equivalent platforms.
- Knowledge of payment rails, messaging standards, and protocols including ISO 20022, SWIFT, ACH, RTP, and wire transfer systems.
- Understanding of authorization, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, fraud, risk, and compliance processes.
- Experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, and GitHub Actions for automated build, test, and deployment workflows.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Oracle, and Redis, including performance tuning and schema design.
- Experience using AI tools and technologies such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Devin to improve development productivity and code quality.
- Experience implementing observability with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Splunk.
- Strong systems-analysis, stakeholder-influence, relationship-building, and consensus-building skills.
- Familiarity with payments regulations and standards such as PCI-DSS, AML/KYC monitoring, and regional payment scheme rules is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; master’s degree preferred.

- Base salary range is $141,440.00-$212,160.00, with possible discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
