Responsibilities
- Maintain IPCHEM across the full technology stack, including HTML, JavaScript, Java/Tomcat, and PostgreSQL.
- Lead data harmonisation, integration, and dissemination processes using ETL, ownCloud, R, and Python.
- Support IPCHEM data providers and users by developing and maintaining onboarding processes and documentation.
- Lead the harmonisation and integration of new datasets and updates to existing datasets.
- Coordinate with the IPCHEM System Manager, Business Manager, data providers, and users.
- Fix bugs, resolve code quality and security issues, improve code organisation, and maintain technical documentation.
- Lead technical activities, consolidate existing data flows, and support implementation of new information-system flows.
- Participate in technical meetings and adapt testing activities to technical and scientific requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- At least 10 years of software development experience, including at least 5 years of web application development with technologies such as Apache/Tomcat, HTML, and JavaScript.
- At least 10 years of experience with ETL data harmonisation tools, preferably Pentaho Data Integration – Community Edition.
- At least 10 years of data-management experience, including at least 5 years managing large-scale datasets using PostgreSQL/PostGIS or comparable technologies.
- At least 5 years coordinating technical teams, including at least 3 years working in Agile IT projects.
- Strong knowledge of Pentaho Data Integration, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, and Java/Tomcat.
- Good knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, R, and Python, plus basic knowledge of ownCloud or Nextcloud administration, APIs, and PHP.
- Understanding of software security principles, data protection practices, FAIR data principles, business processes, and user needs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and technical-documentation skills.
- Experience working on multiple large-scale projects in multicultural environments.
- English proficiency at minimum B2 level and ability to participate in multilingual meetings conducted in English.
- Project-management certification, preferably PM² or Scrum, is an asset.
Benefits
- The role is based in Ispra, Italy, with possible locations across Europe.
- The stated employee salary range is EUR 36,000–43,000 gross per year, plus EUR 28.80 net per day worked.
- A freelancer engagement range of EUR 300–360 per day is stated.
