Responsibilities
- Operate and evolve Kubernetes-based platforms across CDSE and other sovereign deployments, including upgrades, capacity planning, networking, and autoscaling.
- Deploy and maintain Planet platform services across environments with different hosting, security, and data-residency constraints.
- Define infrastructure as code and GitOps-style release workflows using Terraform, Helm, and GitLab CI.
- Own reliability practices by defining SLIs and SLOs, tuning alerts, maintaining Grafana dashboards and runbooks, load testing, and reporting availability against SLAs.
- Respond to incidents, lead blameless post-mortems, implement lasting fixes, and participate in the on-call rotation.
- Operate stateful systems including PostgreSQL/PostGIS, object storage, and search indices, with responsibility for backup, restore, and disaster recovery.
- Contribute to access control, secrets management, patching, vulnerability management, audits, and customer security reviews.
- Collaborate with project partners and customer technical teams, maintain operational documentation, review code and infrastructure changes, and mentor teammates.
Requirements
- 6+ years of DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering experience running distributed, low-latency, high-volume production services.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or Geosciences, or equivalent practical experience.
- Production experience operating Kubernetes or Nomad, including troubleshooting, upgrades, ingress, networking, resource management, and autoscaling.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD tooling, Git, and Docker.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana and with defining meaningful alerts.
- Solid Linux and networking fundamentals plus scripting or programming skills in Python, Go, or Bash.
- Experience with GCP, AWS, OpenStack, or comparable infrastructure, including object storage such as S3.
- Operational experience with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, and with incident response and on-call rotations.
- Strong written and verbal communication, cross-time-zone collaboration skills, ability to work through ambiguity, and professional working proficiency in English.
- Preferred experience includes sovereign, regulated, or public-sector environments; data residency; ISO 27001; GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux; Java service operations; Elasticsearch or OpenSearch; and Earth Observation standards such as COGs, STAC, OGC web services, or openEO.
