Responsibilities
- Develop backend services and APIs for AI tools, including generative AI features.
- Build and optimize scalable, reliable backend systems for the platform’s search experience using technologies such as Elasticsearch.
- Lead code reviews, mentor engineers, contribute to technical architecture, and provide input on new products and features.
- Conduct research, experimentation, and proof-of-concepts with technologies related to AI and search.
- Work on financial data modeling, access control logic, ML/AI prediction-service integrations, and data visualization infrastructure.
- Improve codebase health through refactoring, automation, testing, and documentation.
- Own projects and features from initial scoping through delivery across the full software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists, and financial, legal, and editorial teams.
Requirements
- Senior individual contributor experience leading systems design and infrastructure discussions, mentoring junior engineers, and scoping work in cross-functional product teams.
- Experience with Python and web frameworks, particularly FastAPI, strong typing, and Pydantic.
- Experience designing data flows from persistent storage to API endpoints with appropriate validation and engineering best practices.
- Good working knowledge of SQL statements for data retrieval.
- Experience with or strong understanding of search technologies such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr, or high-performance NoSQL databases for information retrieval.
- Strong interest in generative AI and broader AI concepts.
- Ability to plan and reason about software clearly and communicate its purpose and business impact.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across different roles and specialties.
- Experience writing testable, maintainable code and participating in code reviews.
